Colorado Prepares for Its First Drive-Through Cannabis Shop

With both medical and recreational marijuana legalized, Colorado is currently one of the most pot-friendly states. Its authorities are making significant steps forward in developing the cannabis industry in the state and establishing new measures for making weed more accessible to the citizens and visitors of Colorado. In addition to numerous dispensaries, the state will soon have its first drive-through cannabis shop.

Parachute, a western Colorado town, is likely to implement a new business model that will give customers a possibility to buy cannabis products in the innovative drive-through weed shop.

According to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, Tumbleweed Express has recently received a license approval from The Parachute Board of Trustees. The new business is expected to open in a former car wash in March.

The new shop should have a high level of security and surveillance. Also, cannabis goods would not be visible from outside. Anyone under the age of 21 would not be allowed to visit the store, even sitting in the back seat of a car.

Stuart McArthur, Parachute Town Manager, believes the new shop is a very promising idea. He also mentioned that the cannabis industry had accounted for about 30 percent of the of the community’s 2016 sales tax revenue. Moreover, many other businesses also benefit from it. Travelers that come to Parachute to buy marijuana goods often go to restaurants and shops as well, which is helping restart the state’s economy that was hit by a decrease in natural gas production. Town Mayor Roy McClung is convinced that Colorado’s economy would have stagnated without legalized recreational cannabis.

    Colorado Dispensary Chains Are Growing
Despite the spread of cannabis legalization in the U.S., Colorado remains the leading place of the industry. The state has issued 491 dispensary licenses. Over a third of the shops are located in Denver. However, there are also many places all over the state.
