Last year when Dad & Dudes Breweria launched their first beer infused with cannabis oil at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), the product generated a lot of buzz. This year, the company has gone further and won the country’s first federal approval for its CBD-rich beer. Dudes Brews will present their new brand titled General Washington's Secret Stash at this year festival on Oct. 6-8.
Though this beverage is infused with cannabis oil, it does not cause any psychoactive effects, as the producer uses only hemp extracts rich in CBD that will not make you high. Because of this, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved the Dad & Dudes beer for commercial production.
Mason Hembree, one of the brewery owners, confessed that this was not an easy process, but the result was well worth the efforts. The TTB requires an ingredient analysis and a disclosure of the beer recipe before it gives its approval for the product. The brewery submitted all the required proof and finally managed to convince the TTB that the beer does not contain THC.
This approval means to the company more than just being able to manufacture the beer; they got their message about beneficial CBD qualities out to the federal government and large pharmaceutical businesses. Hembree believes that the government prohibits studying the potential medical benefits of cannabis because otherwise pharmaceutical companies might sustain great losses.
By creating its new bear, the company wanted to make beneficial cannabis compounds available to more people. Moreover, the Dudes’ founders and investors support the opinion that the herb should be removed from the Schedule I list.
To bring the product to the federal market, Hembree is going to cooperate with Beverage 364, a company that helps alcohol beverage businesses find a route to market. In addition, Dudes Brews has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $50,000 aimed to expand the beer availability to other states, besides Colorado. The company wants to distribute their weed-infused beer in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, California, and other states.
If you support the company in their Kickstarter campaign, the Dudes Brews will print your name on the side of Secret Stash six-packs or give you other rewards. And if you are going to visit this year GABF, you will be able to try one of their ten beers, five of which contain cannabis extracts. These beers include an IPA, a double IPA, a Berliner Weiss, and a cream ale.
